My experiences in Bali remain close to me and always will. The honest, caring and friendly nature of the Balinese people was more apparent to me each day. Although I lacked in desire for goods and services I tried to return the kindness of the people who welcomed me into their homes with stories and with images of the work I was creating. I have been treated well by people in countries around the world still I was surprised when the young man who rented umbrellas on the beach and his friend insisted on accompanying me to the airport despite of my lack of need of his services during my visit. Even the girls who hawked their goods on the beach with "you never buy anything from me" were waiting when I returned from my last day of work to ask when I would return, to give gifts, and for a last chance at selling me something I didn't want. The relationships of the Balinese people with their families and their gods only affirmed my beliefs in people and I thank them for sharing their lives so freely with me. Jim | ||||||||||
